MEDICAL STUDENT HOUSING

We require a $50.00 security deposit to hold your housing reservation. Effective July 1, 2008, the fee for housing is $200.00 (per 4 week rotation). Please be prepared to bring a money order made payable to Florida Hospital Graduate Medical Education to orientation. Your security deposit must be received with the required documents prior to your arrival. Your deposit will be refunded upon favorable completion of the inspection by the GME Coordinator. Inspections take place on the last Friday of each month. If you do not check out with the GME Coordinator and return all hospital property, you will forfeit your deposit and your evaluation may be withheld (at the discretion of the office of Graduate Medical Education).

Arrival
Students arriving over the weekend or before 8am and after 5pm Monday through Friday can pick up the apartment key at the information desk in the main lobby of the hospital (at the corresponding location). You must notify our office of your arrival date and time.

  • You may Check In on the day prior to the start of your rotation.
  • You must Check Out by noon with the DME Secretary on the last day of your rotation.
  • Keys must be returned to the GME Coordinator or the DME Secretary.

Both apartments are adjacent to Florida Hospital. When walking to the hospital, travel straight down Rollins Street, take a left to Winter Park Street; cross the street and walk into the Medical Plaza (on your right). Follow the corridor until you get to the North Tower elevator. The Department of Medical Education is on the second floor, suite 235.

If you are driving, use the Alden Street Parking Garage adjacent to the main entrance of the hospital which intersects at Alden and Rollins Streets. Cross the railroad tracks on Rollins Street enter the Medical Plaza (North Tower). The Department of Medical Education is on the second floor, Suite 235.

Please use a search engine to map directions to the complex from your starting location. Upon arrival, you must report to the leasing office to provide a copy of your driver's license and receive a parking pass.

The Cypress Run apartment is co-ed. There are three separate rooms to accommodate up to six medical students. Each room is designated by gender. Male and female students are not permitted to share the same room at any time.

Directions to the apartment from the hospital: turn right onto Lake Underhill; at the first traffic light turn left onto Goldenrod Road; travel down Goldenrod for approximately 1.5 miles to Cypress Run Apartments (on your right). Turn into the complex; turn left onto Gateshead Circle; travel on winding road to Building #7148. Apartment #4 is located upstairs on your right.


HOUSING RULES

Note: Students may be denied housing or face other disciplinary action as determined by Medical Education Administration for infraction of any rules.

  1. Housing is provided for the use of students accepted for Florida Hospital externships only. No overnight guests (including spouses, family or friends) are permitted.
  2. A cleaning service is provided every other week. This is a general cleaning not a maid service. Please remove all personal items from public areas. If the cleaners are not able to clean you may forfeit your deposit.
  3. To report maintenance problems, contact the engineering department at (407) 303.5599; dial the pager number indicated (#0540). Students in housing at Cypress Run (East Campus), in the event of an emergency, report directly to the apartment complex office at (407) 658.4704.
  4. (Cypress Run) Garbage must be taken to the dumpster daily. For other locations, garbage must be placed in the larger garbage cans/recycle bins provided in a designated area (outside) daily. Please refer to pick up days (Mondays & Thursdays) and recycling information posted in your living area. All garbage must be removed before your departure.
  5. NO SMOKING or tobacco products, alcohol or illegal drugs.
  6. NO PARTIES
  7. NO PETS
  8. Each extern is required to clean the tub or shower after each use.
  9. You are responsible for washing your own dishes. Please coordinate the use of the dishwasher for efficient usage.
  10. All toiletries, toilet paper and cleaning products are your responsibility.
  11. All furniture is to remain in its original location. Bed sets/mattresses are not to be taken down or stacked.
  12. Students assigned at Cypress Run apartments must report to the leasing office to have their driver's license photocopied and receive your parking pass.
  13. Please do not lock bedroom doors. All rooms are subject to assignment of additional externs without notice.
  14. All housing is subject to inspection and modification by medical education and/or cleaning service without notice.
  15. The phones located in the apartments are for LOCAL calls only.
  16. At the end of your rotation:
    * Please remember to remove all of your personal belongings.
    *Wash all towels and bedding and leave folded on the bed for the next student. >(Please do not wash the bed skirt)
    *Return your key to the GME Coordinator.
    * Complete the housing refund checklist and return it to the DME secretary or >the GME Coordinator.
