Dr. J. Douglas McDonald received his medical degree from the University of Colorado. After completing his residency in Family Medicine in the Denver area, he completed a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Michigan State University. He was in private practice for five years before joining the Orthopedic faculty at the University of Florida where he was a team physician for UF athletics from 2002-2008. During his time at UF, he cared for four different National Championship teams.

Dr. McDonald joined the Florida Hospital faculty in 2011. In addition to Sports Medicine, his clinical interests include general family medicine, women's and student health, wilderness medicine, and medical education. His proudest moment in medicine was delivering his own children.

Outsidee of medicine, he is interested in wildlife, SCUBA diving, photography, participating in various sports, and spending time with his family.
