Welcome

The three year Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Florida Hospital was accredited in 2007 and offers six categorical positions that began July of 2008. The residency includes research and the use of cutting edge technology aligning our program with Florida Hospital's mission of being a global pacesetter in health care.

Our program is affiliated with Florida State University and University of South Florida medical schools. The majority of training will take place at the Florida Hospital East Orlando campus, which is located on the east side of metropolitan Orlando. Florida Hospital East Orlando provides emergency services to the fast-growing suburban communities in this locale and is the closest emergency department to Orlando International Airport. The Emergency Department is the busiest of all our campuses with a current census of over 74,000 annually.

Our core faculty represents numerous prestigious academic institutions and have participated at regional, national, and international meetings. The academic component of training is emphasized by a regular schedule of conferences with mandatory attendance. Continuity of care is an integral part of residency training at Florida Hospital, and residents are expected to follow-up on interesting/complicated patients whom they see in the Emergency Department. Residents are able to easily track their patient's hospital course and review discharge summaries, operative reports, and autopsy reports electronically. Progress in the program is monitored by evaluations for each rotation as well as annual participation in the Emergency Medicine In-Service examination. Residents are expected to participate in research and mentoring of medical students. Participation in medical missions is also encouraged.

We are excited and enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with you at our newly accredited residency program and look forward to receiving your application. Our main focus is to provide highly trained Emergency Medicine physicians who are both evidence based and compassionate.

Applications to the Emergency Medicine Residency Program will be through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). We expect to begin interviewing in November through January. Please complete your ERAS materials for our review and when selected for an interview, we will contact you.

Again, thank you for your interest in our program. We look forward to receiving your application and meeting you in the near future.

Respectfully,

Dale S. Birenbaum MD, FACEP, FAAEM
Academic Chairman
Program Director, Florida Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency
